Podcasting a Conference

In line with our podcasting project leading to the Paper 3 Case study this year for ITGS I want you to consider the following scenario and respond to this page, in the discussion forum, with a comment on behalf of the group you belong to.

Scenario
The ECIS IT conference is to be held in Dusseldorf from March 22-25. There are many presentations that the organisers are considering 'recording' in some way.
You, as a group of students have been given task of organising the recordings, turning them into podcasts and putting them online over the three days. Please respond with answers to the following as per your group:

Group 1: What is podcasting?
  • Find examples of other conferences (any sort, not just education) that have used podcasting to share during and after the event and detail the approaches taken.
  • Discuss the best approach to podcasting this conference. Should all sessions be recorded in full? Should presenters be interviewed? Should presenters prepare a podcast of their session?
  • Decide on the best approach and make a short list of expectations and requirements for each presenter, the organisers and the tech team
Group 2: How do you podcast?
  • Make suggestions as to what HW and SW is needed to podcast each session based on the decisions made in Group 1
  • What needs to be done to finalise the podcast? record, edit, mix, convert, save, upload??
  • Suggest where the podcast is to be uploaded and how it is to be presented and how it can be accessed
Group 3: What is the impact of podcasting?
  • Discuss what the impact of podcasting this conference will be on the attendees and those not able to be there in person
  • Discuss how the podcasts can be ditributed to a wider audience and give strategies for this
  • For those not in attendance: how can these podcasts be used by teachers, administrators or others after the conference?
Group 4: What are the ethical challenges of podcasting?
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of podcasting the conference
  • Who will 'own' the podcasted material? What are the copyright issues if any?
  • Suggest some guidelines for presenters, organisers and online viewers for recording, accessing and using the podcasts
